Gojoten-jinja Shrine

Information

Gojoten-jinja Shrine is a shrine dedicated to medicinal gods. The shrine is one of the oldest in Ueno, having been documented as occupying the Ueno Hills around the middle of the Muromachi era (1336 - 1573). It was originally located on Suribachi-yama, but was moved several times, with other locations including Yamashita Kuromon-mae and the entrance to Ameyoko Street, before finally arriving at its current location in 1928.
