Hamada Castle Ruins

Information

Hamada Castle, built in 1620 by Shigeharu Furuta, served as the heart of Hamada's feudal government for nearly 250 years thereafter, until it was destroyed in 1866 during a battle with troops from the rebellious fief of Choshu (western part of today's Yamaguchi prefecture). Today the stone walls remain to invite you into the world of the past, and it is well known as a great place to view cherry blossoms. It is designated as a prefectural cultural asset.
