Hoki-ji Temple

Information

Hoki-ji Temple was founded in 638. It is said the temple once used to be a palace of Prince Shotoku Taishi, and then converted to a temple by his son, Prince Yamashiro.
The outstanding attraction of the temple is the three-storied pagoda, which is said to date from 706 and generally considered as the oldest example of its kind in Japan. The pagoda is now designated as a national treasure.

19 minutes from Kintetsu-Koriyama Station on the Kintetsu Kashihara Line by the bus bound for Horyu-ji. Get off at Hokki-ji-mae Bus stop.
