There are about 19,000 pieces in the museum collection, such as scorched roof tiles, burned clothing and glass bottles that were melted by the heat. In July 2006, the museum was the first postwar building to be designated as a National Important Cultural Property. Over 1.3 million guests visit the museum every year.
