Byakkotai, which means white tiger, was a group of teenage warriors organized in the Aizu domain for the Boshin Civil War (1868 - 1869).
Byakkotai is remembered for the tragic suicide of 19 Byakkotai members at Mt. Iimori-yama during the war.

Byakkotai Memorial Museum is located at the entrance of the mountain.
The museum displays a total of 12,000 items that are related to the Boshin Civil War, including the belongings and relics of Byakkotai and Shinsengumi.

  • 9:00 - 16:00 (November - March)

Access / Public Transport

  • Take Akabee bus from JR Aizu-Wakamatsu Station and get off at Iimoriyama-shita Bus stop (4 minutes bus ride)
  • Take Haikara-san bus from JR Aizu-Wakamatsu Station and get off at Iimoriyama-shita Bus stop (46 minutes bus ride)
