Byakkotai, which means white tiger, was a group of teenage warriors organized in the Aizu domain for the Boshin Civil War (1868 - 1869).
Byakkotai is remembered for the tragic suicide of 19 Byakkotai members at Mt. Iimori-yama during the war.
Byakkotai Memorial Museum is located at the entrance of the mountain.
The museum displays a total of 12,000 items that are related to the Boshin Civil War, including the belongings and relics of Byakkotai and Shinsengumi.
