Information

Gokayama is a prefectural natural park including Kamitaira, Taira and Toga villages.
In this area there are many houses preserved in the classical Japanese country style dating from the 17th century.
Its architectural style is called "Gasho-zukuri".
The two hamlets of Ainokura and Suganuma, where these houses are concentrated, were designated by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site in 1995 along with Shirakawa-go, another Gassho-zukuri houses hamlet several kilometers away from Gokayama.

  • 120 minutes from JR Takaoka Station by the bus bound for Gokayama / Shirakawa-go.
  • 30 minutes from JR Johana Station by the bus bound for Gokayama / Shirakawa-go.
