Hokkaido University began in 1876 as the Sapporo Agricultural College to train youths for the colonization and development of
Hokkaido.
Dr.
William S.
Clark was invited from the United States by the Japanese Government to teach there for a year.
His bust on the campus of the Agriculture Faculty of the University on which are inscribed his final parting words, “Boys, be ambitious!”

Hokkaido University Museum is open to the public to show the university's research achievements.
Over 4,000,000 specimens including the skeletal preparations of a Desmostylus are exhibited.

  • 9:30 - 16:30 (April - October)
  • 10:00 - 16:00 (November - May)

Closed

  • Mondays (or the following day when it falls on a national holiday)
  • December 28 - January 4
  • The day of school events
