Izumo-daijingu Shrine was founded in 702 to enshrine the god Okuninushi (Susanoo's son) and his wife Mihotsu-hime.
It is said that Okuninushi was invited from Izumo-taisha in Izumo Province (today's Shimane) and re-enshrined here.
The shrine's current Honden main hall was mended by Ashikaga Takauji in 1346, and the building is now designated as an important cultural property.
The water gushes out in the precincts of the shrine called "Manai" is said to have a power to bring happiness and longevity.
