Kasuga-Taisha Shrine

Travel Guide - Kasuga-Taisha Shrine

Information

Kasuga-Taisha was founded in 768 to protect Heijo-kyo Capital in Nara, and is one of the most famous Shinto shrines in Japan.
The shrine has been worshipped not only by the imperial family but also by common people, and a lot of lanterns were donated to the shrine.

The shrine's Honden main hall and 49 treasures are designated as national treasures.
The halls of the shrine are reconstructed every 20 years, and the vermilion lacquered buildings form a beautiful contrast to the surrounding verdant woods.
