Nakagusuku Castle Ruins

Travel Guide - Nakagusuku Castle Ruins

Information

Nakagusuku Castle stands on the summit of a mountain in Nakagusuku village.
It is considered one of the most famous Gusuku (Okinawan castles or fortresses) in Okinawa and also a designated World Heritage site.
It is said that the legendary Ryukyuan commander, Gosamaru, built the fortress in the early 15th century.
The six courtyards of this fortress with stacked stone walls make it a typical example of a Gusuku.
