Nomura Residence

Travel Guide - Nomura Residence

Information

Nomura Residence is the only residence which is open to the public in Nagamachi quarter.
The old house surrounded by traditional tile-roofed mud walls was the residence of Nomura Denbei-Nobusada, the Maeda clan’s samurai warrior of the mid-19th century.
The house is famous for its elaborate rooms and Japanese garden.
A monochrome landscape painting on Fusuma sliding doors drawn by a Kano school artist Sasaki Senkei, Shoji paper doors decorated with diamante, and a compartment ceiling made of cypress are culturally valuable.
The Japanese garden was ranked in the third place in the US magazine "The Journal of Japanese Gardening" in 2003.
