Rinno-ji Temple

Travel Guide - Rinno-ji Temple

Information

Rinno-ji Temple is located at Omotesando (the main approach to the shrine) on the way from Shinkyo Bridge.
Rinno-ji, along with Enryaku-ji Temple in Kyoto and Kanei-ji Temple in Tokyo, are considered the big three of the Tendai sect.

Sanbutsu-do Hall, the main building of the Rinno-ji temple complex built during the Heian Period (794 - 1185), is the largest wood building in eastern Japan.
Taiyu-in is the mausoleum of Tokugawa Iemitsu, the third Shogun of the Tokugawa Shogunate.
There are many fascinating things to see at Taiyu-in, including the magnificent Niten-mon Gate, and then Koka-mon Gate, so reminiscent of Ryugu Castle.
