A number of artists are attracted to Kyoto and choose Kyoto as their art motif.
The Museum of Kyoto introduces the history and culture of Kyoto.
Its exhibition features paintings by Japanese painters from different modern period of time which show a variety of aspects of Kyoto; Kyoto art and craft masterworks, film and theater exhibits, Kyoto archaeological artifacts, local crafts and more.
The museum also has a section of quality shops, restaurants and cafes.
The museum was renovated and re-opened in 2011.
The museum's annex building built in 1906 used to be the Bank of Japan Kyoto branch.
The building is designated as an important cultural property, and you can enter the building for free.
- 10:00 - 19:30 *admission until 30 minutes before closing
- Mondays (or the following day when it falls on a national holiday)
- Year-end and New Year's holidays
