Yakushi-ji Temple

Travel Guide - Yakushi-ji Temple

Information

Yakushi-ji Temple was founded by the Emperor Tenmu in 680 to pray for healing of the Empress.
The temple was moved to the current location when the capital of Japan moved to Kyoto.
Even though the moat of the buildings in this temple were destroyed by fire and the original one that still exists now is only the 37.9 meters high Three-Storied East pagoda (National treasure), they were reconstructed one after the other.
Dai-kodo Hall, the largest hall in the temple was also reconstructed in 2003.
