The 350,000 square meters Kajo Park is the site of the former Yamagata Castle.
There are restored Yamagata Castle's Ninomaru Higashi-Otemon gate, the gate which was constructed in a traditional architectural style, a statue of Mogami Yoshiaki, the 11th feudal lord of Yamagata, Yamagata City Folk Museum, and Yamagata Prefectural Museum in the park.

Kajo Park is also a popular place for Hanami (cherry blossom viewing) in the spring.
